Did you know? Between 20 to 40 percent of dogs suffer from separation anxiety. If only we could take our dogs with us everywhere we go to spare them from the whole ordeal. Elizabeth wished that too for Pepper. Here's their story:
Elizabeth and Pepper's story
I wanted a German Shepherd for a long time. My fiancé was a K9 handler for the Marines and we had talked about getting me a German Shepherd after we got married.
He passed away, and to honor him, I decided to follow with our plan and get Pepper.
She's exactly who I needed.
She loves car rides and ANY adventure where she gets to run free! Playing fetch is her jam. If I'm too slow on getting her to the park to play, she brings me almost anything and sets it on my lap. I'm not sure if it's an offering or she wants me to throw it. Haha. Anything to get us out the door, I guess.
Pepper's separation anxiety
Since she spent so much time with me, and at doggy daycare while I worked, she spent very little time alone.
That caused a lot of anxiety during the times when she did need to be home alone for a short amount of time.
She'd shred bedding, destroyed her first crate, and SOMEHOW managed to get pillows off my bed into her crate to shred.
Keeping Pepper calm
We tried lots of things and the combination that seems to have helped the most is a good amount of exercise, crate training, and a dose of Complete Calm a little while before we leave the house.
We have been able to go from having to leave an anxious pup at home for no more than 15 minutes, to coming home to one that is excited to see us but has been nice and calm in her crate for several hours!
We love our Complete Calm and would recommend it
as a part of any pup's routine if anxiety is an issue for them!
